AI technology firm Soul Machines has unveiled Digital Marilyn, a hyper-real AI-generated digital avatar of Marilyn Monroe, allowing fans to engage in conversations with the late actor, according to a report by The Variety. The project aims to recreate Marilyn’s signature voice and style, enabling her to answer questions and share anecdotes with users.

Digital Marilyn utilizes advanced natural language processing, deep learning, and GPT 3.5 to interact with users in real time. The AI-generated chatbot can read users’ emotions and respond accordingly, creating a personalized experience for each individual. Soul Machines’ proprietary camera and microphone technology enable Digital Marilyn to analyze preferences and tailor responses, fostering a genuine connection with users.

The project showcases the transformative power of AI in connecting brands and consumers. Greg Cross, CEO and co-founder of Soul Machines, describes Digital Marilyn as more than nostalgia, providing a glimpse into the future of immersive interactions. The project is produced in partnership with Authentic Brands Group, which manages the rights to Marilyn Monroe’s image and likeness.

According to Dana Carpenter, EVP of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group, Digital Marilyn offers exciting possibilities for multiple generations of fans to engage with the iconic personality in a whole new way. While Marilyn Monroe can never be replaced, the AI avatar fosters a deeper connection and appreciation for her enduring spirit and legacy.

Soul Machines has previously created AI-based digital celebrities for personalities like Carmelo Anthony, Jack Nicklaus, Mark Tuan, and Francis Ngannou. The company was founded in 2016 by Greg Cross and Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Mark Sagar. Authentic Brands Group’s brand portfolio includes Elvis Presley, Muhammad Ali, Shaquille O’Neal, and David Beckham, among others.
