The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad mentioned that it will extend all possible support to the Telangana Commercial Taxes officials in investigating the current GST returns scam excavated through the department and continue to furnish all data as requested with time.

IIT-H in a report mentioned that a project was sanctioned by the Government of Telangana State (TS) to the Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) on “Big data analytics and value-added tax data” on July 12, 2017, for 1 year and extended each year with the updated extension being until May 2024.

The PI and the project team are furnishing the analytical reports constantly, to the Government of Telangana periodically based on the data furnished to the officials of the Government, as per the statement.

The same project is been executed by the IIT-H in its sincerity, like any other sponsored research project. IIT-H will extend all possible assistance to the Commercial Taxes officials and shall continue to furnish all the data as requested from time to time.

It may be stated here that the Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, G. Kishan Reddy, had reportedly communicated severe concern at the role of the IIT-H in the massive Goods and Services Tax returns scam running into over Rs. 1,000 crore, excavated via the Commercial Taxes department.

A letter to the Director of IIT-H is written by the CT department officials asking for information on the role of particular officials in the defects flagged through the senior CT officer. It is comprehended that the Director of Research IIT-H has answered the letter.
