Delhi has taken a significant step towards enhancing property registration with the implementation of the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS) across all 22 Sub-Registrar Offices.

During a high-level meeting, Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi VK Saxena issued an imperative directive to complete the registration of all properties in the city with NGDRS by January 2025.

Additionally, the L-G emphasised the necessity of integrating the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) property databases with the NGDRS.

Developed by the Government of India, the NGDRS is a pioneering initiative aiming to streamline the property registration process, bolster transparency, curtail processing time, and mitigate fraud and corruption.

The NGDRS project is underpinned by the concept of “One Nation, One Software,” centralising property data into one accessible database.

This centralisation is expected to bring about a drastic transformation in property transactions, making the process more secure and efficient.

To date, 2.31 lakh properties in Delhi have been successfully registered using NGDRS, showcasing the system’s adoption and effectiveness, said officials.

This integration is expected to further consolidate property data, thus contributing to an even higher level of transparency and security.

Although the NGDRS has already been adopted in 18 states and Union Territories, its introduction in Delhi marks a significant milestone.

This will gradually pave the way for a faceless registration process, offering ease and convenience to property owners by eliminating the need for physical documentation and in-person visits to registration offices.

The implementation of the NGDRS aligns with the vision of a unified and efficient property registration system across the nation.

As Delhi progresses towards full-scale adoption, the city sets a precedent for other states to follow, promising a future where property transactions are seamless, transparent, and incorruptible.
