The Finance Secretary-cum-Secretary Excise & Taxation, UT, examined tax collection under GST and efforts made under the GST Act, during an intensive review discussion on GST and Excise concerns.

He praised the GST division for Increasing GST Collection by 23% up to December compared to the previous financial year. The GST wing was given instructions on how to increase the tax base in the UT, identify defaulters, and concentrate on analysis to stop tax evasion and boost Tax Revenues.

There were discussions about Tax Revenue and improving the Excise Wing’s Oversight of bottling Facilities and Vending Machines. As the new Excise Policy is being developed, instructions were provided to research alternative state models for the introduction of regulatory mechanisms, the defence of breach cases, and the detection of illicit and counterfeit alcohol.
